Green Buffaloes Women’s Football Club will this weekend open their 2026 ZPL Women’s Super League Transitional League when they host ZISD Football Club.
The Zambia Army-sponsored side, who are in the Southern Zone, are aiming to start strong when they plan their rescheduled Week 1 fixture at REIZ Arena on Sunday at 12:30.
With the majority of their players and head coach Charles Haalubono returning from national duty and available for selection, the former champions will aim to start strong.
Straight from leading the Copper Queens to the third round of the 2028 Olympic Games qualifiers, Haalubono will now turn his attention to the local league.
In an interview with Bola News, Haalubono said the team looks set to open their new season with a strong performance against ZISD FC.
He, however, noted that the season will require a lot of work, starting with Sunday’s match, since it is short.
“I have been away from the team for some time,” he said. “From the Charity Shield match we played against Zesco Ndola Girls, we looked ready for the season, and based on that, I believe the team is ready to start.”
Haalubono also explained how he plans to integrate the new signings in the squad for the season.
Haalubono pleased to lead Copper Queens.
“We signed a number of players, young players, so that we can balance between youth and experience. We will work on a rotation plan,” Haalubono explained.

Haalubono is honored to lead the Copper Queens to the third round of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games qualifiers.
Going into the next round, the Copper Queens will face Ghana with Haalubono calling for adequate preparations.
“It was a good second leg, and thanks to the hard work of the players and my fellow technical bench, we qualified for the next round. We will be facing an even tougher opponent, so we need to prepare very well,” he stated.
