Malawi will play their remaining CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations matches without head coach, Enos Chatama, for lacking required CAF certification.
The Junior flames will take on Botswana on 21st September before facing Comoros two days later in Mozambique.
In Friday’s 2-0 defeat to Zambia, assistant coach Mapopa Msukwa was on the touchline without Chatama.
Bola News has learnt that Chatama does not possess the requisite CAF certification to be on the touchline.
A coach must posses a minimum CAF A or CAF PRO according to a CAF correspondence of 2025.
An assistant coach should have a minimum of CAF B license.
Coaches without the required standards have up to 2026-27 football season to normalize their certification.
“Coaches with valid contracts who do not possess the required license and who were contracted before the introduction of the New CAF Coaching Requirements will have two football seasons (2025/2026 and 2026/2027) to meet the certification requirements.
“Clubs and National Associations intending to hire coaches must ensure coaches meet the specified qualifications outlined in the new requirements.”
The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) appointed Chatama to head the U-20 team, a promotion from the U-17 team. Sources have informed Bola News that FAM is planning to write CAF to allow Chatama to resolve the impasse.
