The Zambian Premier League (ZPL) has lifted Zesco United’s suspension from the MTN Super League following a “mutual agreement by both parties to withdraw the court case.”
Earlier this month, Zesco were suspended from participating in the MTN Super League after taking their ABSA Cup disqualification matter to the High Court.
The Ndola side had initially been confirmed as qualified for the 2026 ABSA Cup following their victory over Zanaco in February. However, the ZPL later reversed the decision, stating that Zesco had not yet played their Week 17 match against Mutondo Stars, which was the determining fixture for qualification.
The decision prompted Zesco to take the matter to the High Court seeking redress. However, that move led to the ZPL suspending the club.
In response, the nine-time Zambian champions said they had requested FAZ to facilitate the convening of the constitutionally established arbitration tribunal to determine their appeal in accordance with the governing statutes, but FAZ and the ZPL did not oblige the club’s request and, in fact, intimated that the matter was administrative and did not require the intervention of any other body beyond FAZ and the ZPL.
On April 7, the ZPL announced that the suspension had been lifted.
“The Zambian Premier League (ZPL) hereby confirms the immediate lifting of the suspension of ZESCO United Football Club from the league.
“This follows the mutual agreement by both parties to withdraw the court case.
“In addition, their week 20 fixture against Green Eagles will proceed as planned.
“The ZPL looks forward to the amicable resolution of all outstanding matters and the smooth progression of the league.”
