The Zambian Premier League (ZPL) has informed clubs that the winner of this year’s ABSA Cup will qualify for the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup.
In a memo dated February 23, 2026, ZPL Chief Executive Officer Joseph Chimpampwe stated that “pursuant to directives issued by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the qualification framework for Zambia’s representatives in the 2026/27 CAF Inter-Club Competitions shall be determined strictly on the basis of sporting merit achieved during the 2025/26 domestic season.”
According to the guidelines, the 2025/26 MTN Super League champions will represent Zambia in the CAF Champions League. Meanwhile, the winners of the ABSA Cup will qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup.
The league clarified that Zambia has only one officially recognized national cup competition — the ABSA Cup. Should one club win both the league title and the ABSA Cup, the cup runners-up will take up the Confederation Cup slot.
ZPL further reminded clubs that participation in CAF competitions is subject to full compliance with Club Licensing Regulations administered by the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ), including sporting, infrastructure, administrative, legal and financial requirements.
Clubs have since been advised to align their sporting and administrative planning accordingly.
