Malawian striker Temwa Chawinga says she is delighted to have equaled her record of scoring in eight consecutive games.
Chawinga holds the longest consecutive goal-scoring streak in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and now has the chance to surpass her own milestone.
The Scorchers forward found the net and provided an assist in Kansas City Current’s 3-0 victory over Utah Royals, bringing her tally to three goals in as many matches this season. Having scored in every game so far, she looks poised to break even more records.
“I am happy with this, but this will not happen without God’s hand. I should thank him for what he has done for me; without him, I could not reach this far,” she said.
“Also, I should thank my teammates and technical panel for the trust and support they have given me, without them, I could not have hit this record.”
When asked if fans should expect more goals and records this year, Chawinga responded, “With God, everything is possible. Let’s see what God will give us.”
Last season, Chawinga clinched the Golden Boot with 20 goals and was also named the NWSL’s Most Valuable Player (MVP).
