The Flames of Malawi

After a four-year absence from the continental football competition, Kabwe Warriors, Midfielder, Chifundo Mphasi believes it is now time for the Flames of Malawi to secure qualification to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nation.

The Flames, who are aiming for their fourth AfCON berth, have earned spots in the Africa Cup of Nations in 1984, 2010 and 2021.

The FIFA international windows in September, October, and November of 2024 will see the AfCON qualifying matches take place.

Group L of the 2025 AfCON qualifiers features the Flames, former AfCON champions Senegal, Burkina Faso, and Burundi.

Reacting to the draws, Chifundo Mphasi told Bolanews in an exclusive interview that the team will not just participate, but they are ready to compete and secure a spot at the Afcon tournament.

“We are going as Malawi we trust that we can qualify and once you trust you can do it, we are going to qualify not to participate, but to compete this time around,” said Mphasi.

The Kabwe Warriors midfielder is confident the Patrick Mabedi guided side will die a little for the Southern African nation.

Mphasi has been brilliant for the Flames so far as he has managed to score one goal in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
