If you thought Beston Chambeshi had retired from coaching after leaving Nkana, you might want to reconsider. The seasoned coach has declared his desire to take on a fresh challenge.

After losing to the Red Arrows and Mutondo Stars at the beginning of the season, Nkana benched Chambeshi in August before turning to former Forest Rangers coach Ian Bakala.

The disastrous start to the season has continued as Bakala has done little to improve the team’s fortunes. Nkana are still occupying the basement on the log.

Chambeshi had remained silent since being placed on forced leave but has been photographed at several Copperbelt stadiums, watching local action from the stands.

With his Nkana contract finally expiring last week, the veteran coach has delivered his first public statement, claiming that he is ready for a new challenge and has already spoken with potential suitors.

“I’m ready now,” Chambeshi said. “It’s been a time of reflection for me, as well as just resting and watching the game from afar. However, you can expect to hear from me soon.”

Chambeshi is among the most travelled coaches on the local scene. He has previously drilled Power Dynamos, Chambishi, Lumwana Radiants, and Kansanshi Dynamos.

Chambeshi stated that since being placed on administrative leave, he has had offers from more than three different teams but had been unable to commit because he still had a running contract with Nkana.

On October 21, his Nkana contract expired.

Chambeshi, a former Nkana player, has on the last three occasions bailed out Nkana; thus, some people believed that he was treated unfairly when he was driven out just after two games in the new season.

He, however, refused to read too much into his treatment at the club.

“I will not discuss it; what is important is that the team needs to start collecting points,” he said.
