Following CAPS United’s 3-1 home loss to ZPC Kariba on Sunday, irate fans disrupted head coach Ian Bakala’s required post-match interview, resulting in chaotic scenes at Rufaro Stadium.
Bakala, a former Makepekepe midfielder now in charge of the Green Machine, was due to address the league’s official broadcaster, ZBC, when missiles were hurled from the stands towards him.
The situation forced the broadcaster to cancel the on-pitch interview, cutting short the post-match formalities.
On the pitch, CAPS United endured a frustrating outing, undone by costly defensive errors and an inspired ZPC Kariba side.
The visitors opened the scoring in the 20th minute through open play, an awkward bounce deceiving the CAPS goalkeeper and handing Kariba the advantage.
Defensive indecision then gifted ZPC Kariba a second, with goalkeeper Kwaku spilling the ball into the path of the attackers for an easy finish.
CAPS United briefly reignited hope when Mabiala rose highest to head home from a Tanaka Kante Shandirwa free kick, making it 2-1. But the visitors restored their two-goal cushion soon after, with a well-taken strike that sealed the points.
The 3-1 defeat leaves Makepekepe’s faithful restless, with the club sitting in 11th place with 31 points from 27 matches, two points off the relegation zone.
