Chipolopolo defender Zephaniah Phiri says his main target this season is to help his team, the Prison Leopards, survive relegation.
Phiri, who was part of the Chipolopolo squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, has played an important role for the Correct Boys.
Best known for taking good set pieces, he was also involved in the two goals for the Chipolopolo in their 3-0 pre-AFCON victory over Uganda.
Speaking exclusively to Bolanews, Phiri promised to help the team avoid relegation and help strikers score more goals.
“More hard work, help the team be out of the red zone and have more assists than last season and that will come with teamwork, not as an individual,” said Phiri.
The 26-year-old defender did not play at the AFCON tournament, though he didn’t feature in any of the three matches.
Phiri has so far provided three assists in 16 Super League matches.
On his return to club football after the AFCON where he was an unused substitute, he helped his team defeat Kansanshi Dynamos 2-1 in a Week 21 match in Kabwe.
The Prison Leopards are currently 17th in the league standings, with 21 points from 21 matches, including five wins, six draws, and ten losses.
