Zanaco head coach Numba Mumamba has expressed disappointment with the team’s poor performances in recent matches as they push to consolidate a top-four finish in the league standings.
The Bankers suffered a 2-0 defeat to Mufulira Wanderers in a Week 28 fixture played at Shinde Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Goals from Maybin Mpoyi and Joseph Tunbwe secured all three points for Mufulira Wanderers. The defeat saw Zanaco slip to sixth place with 42 points from 26 games played so far.
Reacting to the result, head coach Numba Mumamba believes the defeat is a setback in their quest to achieve their objectives.
“The defeat puts us in an awkward position because we wanted to consolidate our position in the top four brackets, but this is water under the bridge; we just have to get down to work and make sure we prepare our team so that we can grab the three points as we play Red Arrows,” he said.
“A very disappointing loss that we have suffered because we conceded the two goals in moments where we were not supposed to concede the goals and that gave Mufulira Wanderers the courage to play the game, especially in the first half,” added Numba.
Explaining his team’s recent poor performance, Numba said: “I think it is an element of concentration, especially on those crucial moments where we conceded the two goals. Otherwise, this is not a game that we could have lost if we had applied ourselves according to the way we planned and the way we showed in training. I think it’s totally a different picture altogether.”
Zanaco have now shifted attention to their next assignment, where they face city rivals Red Arrows on Thursday in the Super League.
