Zanaco FC coach Kelvin Kaindu believes that the Zambian League will need time to adjust to the current seasonal calendar.
Kaindu’s men defeated Nkana 3-2 in a week 20 matchup on a waterlogged Sunset stadium pitch due to the heavy rains that fell in Lusaka over the weekend.
He stated that the weather conditions are making games extremely difficult and that teams must improve their infrastructure in order to support the calendar.
“To be honest, I think for me personally, it will take a bit of time for our league to adapt and play in a condition like this,” Kaindu told Journalists in Lusaka.
“We have followed the style that is there in Europe, but I think we are still too far. Looking at the pitches that we have, I’m not against any idea, but I’m saying what I have seen.”

Kaindu was, however, quick to mention that change was inevitable and teams needed to adapt to the new conditions.
“I think it’s difficult for the fans that are watching,” he said. “I can see they (fans) get soaked and yet still watching the game. We needed a little bit of time maybe to work on our grounds.”
“But a step forward also change is inevitable. So we just have to adapt at one time I saw the referee try to stop the game,” he said
Zanaco seeking eighth league title
Meanwhile, the Bankers moved into fifth place in the standings with 31 points and will play Forest Rangers this Saturday.
Zanaco will aim to move into the top four brackets as they seek their eighth league title, having last won it 7-years ago.
Meanwhile, it remains to be seen how Zambian clubs will fare this season, given that the majority of the pitches are in disrepair.
