Zimbabwe Coach Reveals Key Objective Ahead of Copper Queens Clash

After months away from international action, Zimbabwe aim to prove themselves against Zambia’s experienced side.

Zimbabwe women’s national team coach Sithethelelwe Sibanda says the Copper Queens’ experience will provide her side with an important measure of their progress.

Fresh from a 2-1 victory over Malawi on Friday at the Three-Nation Tournament in Lilongwe, Zimbabwe now face Zambia, who drew 1-1 with the hosts earlier this afternoon.

“We are facing two teams that have been very active, especially in the FIFA windows. They have played more games than us; obviously, that puts them ahead,” Sibanda said ahead of her side’s match against Zambia.

“In terms of matches played, we are the lowest; they’ve played in all the FIFA windows,” she added.

Sibanda said Zimbabwe’s main objective against Zambia is to re-establish themselves on the international stage after an extended period without games.

“We are not going to put ourselves under a lot of pressure. Our focus, really, at the end of the day was to really reintroduce ourselves into the international scene because obviously if you go nine months without playing, you’ll tell yourself you want to reintroduce yourself into the international scene.”

“So yeah, the main objective really for the girls [is] to get that exposure, try to implement what we try to work on. And at the end of the day, hope that whatever we are trying will come through.”

The Copper Queens will look to redeem themselves after an underwhelming performance against Malawi on Sunday.
