“We’ve A Lot Of Work” – Mumamba Explains As Forest Rangers Punish Zanaco

Mumamba is optimistic about Zanaco's chances of surviving relegation in the 2024-25 season.

Numba Mumamba began his second stint as Zanaco Football Club head coach with a 2-0 away loss to Forest Rangers in Ndola, admitting there’s a lot of work needed to turn things around for the struggling team.

Zanaco has endured a tough season so far, a slump that led to Wedson Nyirenda stepping down as head coach.

Dabid Chilufya, who took charge on an interim basis, managed to steady the ship with some positive results.

However, Mumamba was brought in this week from Kabwe Warriors to help revive the team’s fortunes.

With 19 games played in the 2024-25 MTN FAZ Super League, and Saturday’s defeat, Zanaco remains in the relegation zone.

Despite all this, Mumamba is optimistic about their chances of survival.

“We have a lot of work to do in order to improve the team’s performance, looking at what we have seen today,” said Mumamba after the match.

The new boss believes the team requires improvement across all areas.

“I think we need to work in all the departments from what we have seen today, and we have to get down to work immediately so that we try and polish up in the areas that we are not doing so well,” he explained.

“We have an opportunity to get out of relegation. All we need is to work on the team. I think we have a very young team that is eager to learn,” he said.

On his return, he has hinted at reinforcements during the ongoing transfer window, identifying a creative attacking midfielder as a key target.

“I think we are lacking an attacking midfielder. We need a very creative midfielder to supplement our able defensive midfielders. I think that’s an area we need to improve on,” he concluded.
