Zanaco FC head coach Wedson Nyirenda says the team hopes to finish in the top three of the league standings this season.
The Bankers will face Green Buffaloes in a nail-biting game at Sunset Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Zanaco last played against Zesco United at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, drawing 2-2.
Speaking to the club’s media ahead of the match, Nyirenda stated that he believes the team has done its homework and is prepared for the difficult challenge.
“I think we have done everything. I think we have used collective tactics in defence last week. We did not manage the game well after taking the lead in Ndola against Zesco. We gave away the lead in the last three minutes to go and it wasn’t good for us.”
“I think we have done the corrections in defence, and then we have also done some work upfront and in the midfield so all departments I think we have touched on,” said Nyirenda.
The Zanaco coach stated that the team will fight for the crucial three points, but it will not be easy.
“As usual, it’s never going to be easy games for Zanaco because of the brand and I think Buffaloes is coming in this game after having beaten us in the first round, but this time it will be a different ball game so we have done a lot of homework and I think we need it most like they do so we will give them a run,” he said.
‘Zanaco need to end up in a very decent position’- Nyirenda
Nyirenda is just hoping for a decent finish.
“Yeah, I think we need to end up in a very decent position, coming to number five somewhere there; four will be best. I think if it allows, we can go to number three.
“But it’s not going to be easy. The plus that we have is that now we are looking at a better team than we started; it hasn’t been easy bringing in a team of new and old players,” the former Chipolopolo coach noted.
Zanaco lost to Green Buffaloes in the league’s first round, and they’ll be looking to make amends this time around as they play at home.
They are currently ranked ninth in the league standings with 35 points from 27 matches, including 7 wins, 14 draws, and 6 defeats.
The bankers will need to collect 12 points in the next four games to climb into the top three of the league standings, and they hope FC Muza and Power Dynamos drop points in their next four games.
