Wedson Nyirenda has a word for Red Arrows and Zesco United to represent Zambia in the CAF inter-club games, “playing Champions League is not like our league.”
Arrows are the League Champions and will campaign in the Champions League, while Zesco United, Nyirenda’s former team, will play in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Lately, Zambian clubs have struggled to go past the preliminary stages of either competition and Nyirenda says the two will have to change the narrative.
He, however, warned that it will not be easy for the two sides, who have previously participated in the continental competitions.
“We congratulate them, congratulations to Chisi [Mbewe] and George [Lwandamina] for getting that berth.
“I can just be very blunt here, they have to do a lot of [hard] work because playing CAF is not like our league,” Nyirenda said.
Nyirenda, who is Zanaco’s coach, said the two should be worthy representatives.
“We do not want to have representatives that cannot go further. I have seen their teams; they can do something, but they need to do a lot of work,” Nyirenda said.
Zesco United were the last Zambian team to reach the group stage of the Champions League when they finished bottom of Group A with three points in the 2019/20 season, while In the Confederation Cup, it was Mumamba Numba’s Zanaco in the 2021/22 campaign.
