David Simukonda, a midfielder for Zesco United, says the team wants to get back to winning ways after losing to Red Arrows 1-0 in their most recent MTN Super League match.

Zesco United leads the table with 16 points, four ahead of Kabwe Warriors and Mutondo Stars in second and third place, respectively, despite suffering their first loss of the league campaign.

Simukonda, along with goalkeeper Levison Banda and striker Pascal Phiri, was part of the Zambian team that finished second at the Under-20 COSAFA Championship | CAF U20 Africa Cup qualifier recently held in Maputo, Mozambique.

He was bestowed with the Fair Play award at the tournament following his impressive performance for the Junior Chipolopolo.

However, Simukonda has said he expects a difficult game against Indeni Football Club, who are currently at the bottom of the league standings and are still looking for their first victory of the year.

The midfielder has not ruled out the possibility of a surprise from their neighbours.

“We are ready for Sunday’s match; we know it is a derby, and we shouldn’t underrate them because they are sitting bottom of the table,” Simukonda said.

And goalkeeper Banda has urged his teams to put behind their defeat to Red Arrows and focus on the next matches.

“Playing against Indeni will not be easy; they train there, we train from here, we mingle with them, but we just have to prove a point and get maximum points. We have to come back to winning ways; we have to keep winning and not worry about what other team is playing; we just have to concentrate and play each game as it comes and win,” Banda said.

The nine-time Super League winners face Indeni FC on Sunday at 15:00.
