Zambian Super League side Nkwazi head coach Dennis Makinka is confident Shonga will score more goals this season for his team.
This comes after he scored a brace when they played Buildcon FC in a week 6 fixture played at Levy Mwanawasa stadium last weekend.
“I have always had trust in him (Shonga) and I have known him from the time when was I first assistant coach at Nkwazi. I know what he can do in front of the goal and I look forward to seeing more of that,” he said.
Shonga left Nkwazi in 2017 and joined South African side Orlando Pirates where he played for three seasons in which he scored a total of 16 goals the for the Soweto side.
H left Pirates in 2021 and joined Cape town City FC but did not stay at the club for a long time as he again left after playing only 13 games to join Egyptian side Ismaily where he had an unsuccessful stint and later returned to South Africa after his contract was terminated.
He joined another South African club Sekhukhune FC where he reunited with his compatriots Toaster Nsabata and Roderick Kabwe but it was yet another an unsuccessful half-season stint which saw him leave again and later rejoined Nkwazi this season after five years.
After recording a poor string of results, having gone five matches without a win but only three losses and two draws, Nkwazi finally registered their first win of the season when they humiliated Buildcon 4-0 in Ndola, which saw Shonga score a brace and walk home with the man of the match award on his second appearance for the club this season.
Makinka has since told BOLANEWS their victory over the weekend was huge as it is a morale booster and motivation for the boys to keep working hard.
“We needed to win that game, the game against Kabwe warriors, we said we just need to score a goal, unfortunately we conceded first then equalized but this one we said we have to keep a clean sheet and it happened,” Makinka said.
He added that the team is fired up and is getting ready to meet Zanaco in their next League match even though the game won’t be easy, especially since their opponents are a big team and have an experienced technical bench.
Despite their victory over Buldicon, Nkwazi remain in the relegation zone with only 5 points from 6 matches.
