Green Buffaloes Women’s Football Club head coach Charles Haalubono has blamed the team’s training surface for the growing number of injuries in the squad.

The coach also disclosed that Natasha Nanyangwe is on her way to regaining full fitness.

The Copper Queens midfielder played 45 minutes on her return from an ankle injury on Wednesday as Green Buffaloes beat Konkola Blades Queens 1-0 in a Week 26 ZPL Women Super League match.

Green Buffaloes currently have several players on the treatment table, including Martha Katila, Joana Benala, and Memory Nthala.

The team trains at Green Square Grounds in Arakan Barracks.

In an interview, Haalubono said the hard training surface has been a major concern for the technical bench.

“It’s like every week we have two or three injuries in the team. We have two players out, Joana Benala and Memory Nthala,” he stated.

“Memory has an injured hand, but for Joana, it’s an ankle injury. Our playing surface keeps on injuring players. This one, we will not run away from. The training surface is so bad; it’s not really helping.”

On Nanyangwe, Haalubono said he is confident the midfielder will soon regain full fitness.

“Very soon she will gain her fitness. As you saw, she hasn’t gained her level of fitness. That’s why we kept her for 45 minutes. Although it was quite risky because she looked a bit not all that good. But slowly she will catch up,” he noted.

The log leaders will now turn their attention to their next match against the National Assembly this Sunday.
