After leaving Croatian side NK Istra 1961 four months into his one-year loan deal from Kabwe Warriors, Zambian midfielder Prince Mumba has finally made his feelings known.
The 21-year-old Chipolopolo attacker has responded to those Zambians who are claiming that he did not impress by explaining to BolaNews why he chose to leave the Croatian club midway through his loan agreement.
“It’s so unfortunate that they are writing something they don’t know,” he told BolaNews in an exclusive interview. “It’s very sad that they are criticizing me about something they don’t know.”
The former Kabwe Warriors captain has claimed that he left Istra because the choices presented to him following his initial spell with the club were not favorable for the advancement of his career.
“The reason why I have come back is because of the options I was given, and due to time, I had to come back to my parent club, Kabwe Warriors.”
“I did not fail,” Mumba insisted. “When I went there, I was given a first project whose conditions were that I wouldn’t have enough game time but should focus on adapting to and fitting into their system.
“Then they proposed another project, whose conditions were even less than the first one [in terms of game time], so I just decided to leave. “I did not fail but went for what is good for my career.”
WHY DID ISTRA OFFER MUMBA LESS GAME TIME?
Istra received a large number of players from their affiliated Spanish club, Deportiva, according to Mumba, which resulted in less playing time for him as they were given priority.
“Deportiva had brought more players from Spain to Istra, and so for the second project that they proposed to me, the conditions were that I would have less game time than the first project, and that’s why I decided to come back,” the Kabwe Warriors midfielder said.

Mumba went on to say that he and his agent are working hard to get him back to Europe as soon as possible and that he respects Istra for also respecting his decision and parting ways with him in a mature manner.
“I respect Istra; I respect them; they have taught me a lot, and it will remain home to me. We parted ways in a very good way; we did not quarrel, and the decision I made was good for me. I respect them, and they also respect me and my decision.”
“My agent and I are working, and while I will be playing at my parent club [Kabwe Warriros], we are working on my returning to Europe. I won’t be here for long,” concluded Mumba.
In his four months with Istra, Mumba made a total of 9 appearances from the club, making just one start.
