Emmanuel Chabula’s 90th-minute goal saw Power Dynamos fail to maintain their lead against FC Leopards in the continuation of their Week 24 MTN Super League match, which was disrupted yesterday by heavy rains.

Power had taken the lead in the 35th minute through in-form Kenyan striker Moses Shumah, who has now become the first player to score 15 goals in an MTN Super League season since Andy Boyeli, who won the 2022/23 Golden Boot with 18 goals.

In the second half, Power Dynamos did not create enough chances as expected and failed to extend their lead before Chabula netted a late equaliser.

“Disappointing result; we needed a win to open up the gap (in the standings),” Power Dynamos coach Oswald Mutapa said after the match. “We had a much better first half, but in the second half we didn’t come to the party, and I think they were more hungry in terms of wanting to equalise, and they did just that.”

“It’s disappointing that we failed to defend the basic balls in the 18-yard box, and we were punished,” he added.

The result leaves Dynamos four points clear at the top of the table with two games in hand, having accumulated 52 points after 24 rounds, while Leopards remain deep in the relegation zone, sitting 17th with 21 points from 26 games.

Zesco wins after five losses

Meanwhile, Zesco United ended their five-match losing streak after beating Nchanga Rangers 0-1 in a continuation of a match that was also disrupted by heavy rains yesterday.

Abraham Siakombo scored the winner from a free kick 24 minutes into the game to give the Ndola side a sigh of relief after back-to-back defeats.

On the other hand, it was a second successive home defeat for Rangers, leaving them third on the table with 43 points from 26 games, while Zesco moved up to 12th with 28 points in 23 games.
