Power Dynamos football club head coach Mwenya Chipepo predicts a difficult second half of the season and says the team’s goal is to finish in the top two despite leading the league at the mid-season break.

Chipepo stated that, despite being at the top of the table, there is still room for improvement and that the goal is to finish in the top two.

“Our players have adopted our philosophy, which was not easy, and today we are enjoying our game. We are on top of the table, but I can say there is still room for improvement. I can say we are at about 65%; we have 35 points and are on top of the league,” he said.

The Kitwe-based team is currently leading the Zambian Super League, with a 6-point lead over the second-placed Green Buffaloes, who have 29 points. This season, they are being tipped to win the league for the first time since 2011.

But Chipepo believes that the second round of the season will be very tough for his side, as every team will be aiming to beat them.

“The second round will be very hard. We will be facing the same teams that know that Power Dynamos is playing this type of football, so we have to work very hard so that we finish in the top two. We don’t want to say that we will win the league; our ambition is to make sure that at least we win the league, but it’s going to be tough,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Chipepo stated that he wishes to restore Dynamos’ glory days and hopes to produce players who will play for top European clubs as well as for the national team.

“I am still improving the team; I want people to watch Power Dynamos like the ones they were calling Power 90 (the 1990 squad); I want Power Dynamos to start producing players for the national team; I want Power Dynamos to start producing players who will go to Europe, and that’s our vision,” he said.

The six-time Zambian champions will look to pick up where they left off in the second half of the season next year as they look to win their seventh title.
