When a player moved teams between Power Dynamos and Nkana, their rival teams, the fans used to hate it. However, this has become more normal over the last ten years. Take a read about some of the players who have played for both teams in the last 10 years.
Nkana won this year’s Kitwe derby played at Levy Mwanawasa stadium, Austin Banda scored in the 5th minute. Mousa Lamisa sealed the victory for Kalampa in the 80th minute to push Nkana to 9th on the log with 37 points.
Goalkeeper
Allan Chibwe: After a stint at Zanaco, Chibwe experienced the Kitwe derby from both sides. He played at Power between 2015 and 2018 before moving to Nkana here he played until 2020 when he moved to Green Eagles. His move from Power to Nkana angered fans.
Defenders
Perry Mubanga (right back): A tough-tackling defender, Mubanga impressed at both clubs. Limited playtime at Power Dynamos due to Govenda Simwala’s rise led him to Nkana, where he even donned the captain’s armband. His performances attracted Zesco United before a final return to Nkana.
Maybin Chishimba (Leftback): Arriving at Power Dynamos with much hype, Chishimba faced stiff competition from Lawrence Chungu. This ultimately led him to switch to Nkana under Masautso Mwale, featuring in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.
Christopher Munthali (Centerback): A target of Power fans’ abuse due to his transfer saga, Munthali struggled for game time under Fordson Kabole. A loan spell at Nkana revived his career, and he played a pivotal role in their 2013 title win. Despite returning to Power, his heart seemed to be with Nkana, leading to a messy contract dispute and a two-month ban before finally securing a permanent move.
Kabwe Kamuzati (Centreback): Part of Power Dynamos’ 2011 title-winning team, Kamuzati crossed paths to Nkana under Beston Chambeshi. While successful at Power, he failed to replicate that form at Nkana and moved on to Nchanga Rangers after a single season.
Midfielders
Chrispin ‘Wado’ Mulenga: A member of Power Dynamos’ 2011 championship squad, Mulenga primarily served as a backup. After leaving Power, he bounced around clubs before joining Nkana last season, tragically passing away shortly after their league triumph.
Kelvin Kampamba: Arguably the most successful player to switch at his peak, Kampamba made a name for himself at Nkana in their 2013 title run. His move to Power in 2015 surprised many, especially Nkana fans. After starring for Power, he made a shocking return to Nkana, winning another title before joining Zesco United.
Joseph Sitali: A key figure in Power Dynamos’ 2011 championship midfield alongside Mukuka ‘Deco’ Mulenga, Sitali also had a stint at Nkana between 2014 and 2015. He captained Power during their title year.
Simon Bwalya: A vital cog in Power Dynamos’ 2011 championship team, Bwalya excelled in the number 10 role. His move to Nkana in 2014 saw him integrate well with players like Ronald Kampamba and Festus Mbewe.
Attackers
Jimmy Ndhlovu: This striker proved his worth at both clubs, scoring crucial goals. Recruited by Nkana in 2013, he contributed to their title win before switching to Power, where he became a fan favorite for his goalscoring prowess.
Felix Nyaende: Despite limited playing time at Power, Nyaende’s move to Nkana didn’t significantly improve his situation. He currently plays for Lumwana Radiants.
Coach
Beston Chambeshi: A Nkana legend, Chambeshi is credited with guiding Power Dynamos to the 2011 title, although some argue that Fordson Kabole was the head coach at the time. He has had several spells at Nkana and is now on the books of Konkola Blades
