Nkana FC suffered their third consecutive defeat on Saturday at Sunset Stadium, going down 2-0 to Sensational Zanaco.
After 45 minutes of goalless action, and with both teams reduced to ten men, Elia Mandanji struck in the fourth minute of additional time before the break to hand the Bankers the lead.
In the second half, Zanaco doubled their advantage through Isaac Shamujompa, who headed home from a corner kick in the 51st minute to seal the victory.
“A very important win against Nkana Football Club. Like we anticipated, it won’t be an easy game playing Nkana but atleast our team rose to the occasion and managed to dominate Nkana and they got the two goals that have given us the three points,” Zanaco coach Numba Mumamba said after the match.
For Nkana’s coach, Mwenya Chipepo, it was a painful result, which he attributed to fatigue and off-field challenges affecting his team’s consistency.
“This is a very painful result for Nkana. You know we’ve lost three games in a row, which is bad,” Chipepo said.
“We are going through a lot of difficulties,” he added. “We’ve been banned by FIFA; we can’t reinforce the team. So what we are doing the same players. Our players are tired.”
The defeat leaves Nkana just seven points above the relegation zone, while Zanaco remain in the top four with 37 points, three behind leaders Red Arrows.
