The race for the golden boot is heating up, with Power Dynamos striker Titus Chansa leading with 11 goals after converting a spot kick in a Week 30 MTN Super League match against Napsa Stars.
Just behind Chansa are three players with 10 goals each. BolaNews will shine the light on the frontrunner in the race for the coveted Golden Boot Award.
Titus Chansa – 11 goals (Power Dynamos)
Chansa joined the log leaders during the midseason transfer window from Mutondo Stars Football Club, where he had scored a total of nine goals.
He has been in a tight race with Napsa Stars’ Godfrey Binga, who is trailing the Power Dynamos striker by one goal.
Chansa’s prospects of winning the Golden Boot will depend on Power Dynamos’ resolve to collect points in their matches against Nkwazi, Nkana, Green Eagles, and Nchanga Rangers.
Godfrey Binga – 10 goals (Napsa Stars)
Since making a switch from Kabwe Warriors, Binga has struggled to get going at Napsa Stars, as he has only found the back of the net once since moving to Lusaka.
He was enjoying a good run with Warriors, making them a title contender before joining Napsa Stars, who are occupying ninth place.
His last goal in the league came on January 19 against Nkwazi Football Club at REIZ Arena.
Binga can make it count by scoring goals against FC Muza, Kabwe Warriors, Lumwana Radiants, and Mutondo Stars.
Idris Mbombo – 10 goals (Nkana)
Mbombo has finally found his scoring boots towards the end of the season for Nkana Football Club, who are in search of a place in the top two to play in the CAF Confederation Cup.
His brace against ZANACO in a Week 30 MTN Super League match against ZANACO rescued a point for the Kitwe-based side as they drew 2-2.
The performance effectively placed him in the race for the Golden Boot, as he has now scored 4 goals in the last five matches.
Mbombo’s pursuit of the boot will see him face opposition defenders from Green Buffaloes, Power Dynamos, FC MUZA, and Kabwe Warriors in his team’s last games of the season.
Simon Mulenga – 10 goals (Green Eagles)
The Green Eagles talisman started the season on a promising note, guiding the Choma-based side into the top six for an Absa Cup slot with nine goals in the first round.
At the turn of the second round, Eagles have struggled for form in the league, with Mulenga only managing a single goal since the start of the year.
In the last four matches, Green Eagles will play against Zanaco FC, Green Buffaloes, Power Dynamos, and FC Muza.
Other close contestants in the race include Zanaco FC striker Lambert Araina and Nkwazi’s Innocent Kashita, both sitting on nine goals each.
