Nkana Football Club secured their first win of the season in MTN Super League with a 1-0 victory over Napsa Stars in a Week Four fixture at Lusaka’s Reiz Arena Stadium.
Harrison Chisala’s 37th-minute strike was all Nkana needed to claim the crucial three points, lifting the 13-time Zambian Super League champions out of the relegation zone.
Speaking after the match, Nkana’s first assistant coach, Dennis Mankinka, expressed satisfaction with the result and emphasized the importance of the victory.
“It’s a very good result,” Mankinka said. “It’s important that we start picking maximum points. This season, we have no excuse “but to fight for the title.”
Nkana, who have narrowly avoided relegation in recent seasons, now aim to challenge at the top.
“We survived relegation last season. This year, the target is to push for top two.”
Despite the win, Mankinka acknowledged areas that need improvement, particularly in attack.
“I think we only have a few lapses,” he said. “Defense, we’re doing very well. Midfield, it’s just a bit. But upfront, we need to do more… we are creating a lot. It’s just putting the ball behind the net.”
Mankinka also praised the Nkana fans, whose support continues to inspire the team.
“Very passionate fans. It’s so electric, whether we are playing home or away. We need to win at least the next five games.”
