New Kabwe Warriors coach confident his team can finish in top four

Coach Mumamba has expressed confidence that his team can finish in the top four of the Zambian Super League despite being in the relegation zone.

Numba Mumamba registered his first win in charge of Kabwe Warriors FC on Sunday after they beat Nkana FC by a goal to nil at the Godfrey Chitalu stadium in Kabwe.

Akakulubelwa Mwachiaba converted from the spot just before halftime to hand the Zambia Railway-sponsored side their third victory of the season. This was also Mumamba’s first assignment since he was appointed as the Kabwe Warriors’ coach.

Despite currently being in the relegation zone, the Kabwe Warriors’ coach has set a target of finishing in the top four this season.

Mumamba believes that the victory was a turning point for his side, as it is a confidence booster going forward.

“I think a victory is a good welcome on our part. Looking at how the team has struggled in the first round, we really needed this game for us to improve on our confidence levels, so that as we go into our next game, our level of confidence will be high,” he said.

The Kabwe Warriors’ gaffer still remains hopeful that his side has a chance of finishing in the top four despite currently being in the relegation zone.

“Of course, we need to get more wins as we go into this second round of the season because we have to move out of the relegation zone and finish in a respectable position, but I think we still have a chance of finishing in the top four brackets if only we can continue winning, so our aim is first to move out of the relegation zone, then try as much as possible so that we can finish in the top four,” he said.

Kabwe Warriors’ 1-0 victory against Nkana over the weekend marked the first time since 2010 that they had defeated the 13-time League champions at the Godfrey Ucar Chitalu stadium by a similar score.

The Kabwe-based side now occupies the 16th spot in the league standings with 19 points, and Mumamba’s second match in charge is this weekend’s away Super League match against Forest Rangers in Ndola.
