Perry Mutapa, the head coach of Napsa Stars, thinks that the team’s short-term goal of qualifying for the ABSA Cup Championship will be inspired by defeating Zesco United in tomorrow’s Super League opening match.
With Super League football set to begin today for the 2023/2024 season, the race for the Championship and Continental slots will be up for grabs as Napsa Stars eye the biggest prize.

Mutapa guided the club to its second ABSA Cup title in 2022 while plying in the National League since taking charge of Napsa Stars in 2021.
In an exclusive interview with Bolanews, Mutapa said that his side will brace itself for a tricky encounter against the 9 times league Champions.
“Look, it will not be an easy game for us as Zesco United boasts of experience, having played in the Champions League. But our short-term project is to qualify for next year’s ABSA Cup, so a win will be a motivation to achieve that fit,” he said.
last season’s fifth place finish just after securing qualifying for the Super League from the FAZ Division One League is a motivation for Mutapa.
“We started our season very well and ended up finishing in a good position despite playing in the National League a season before. So, if we can start our season with a win, we shall surely do great things.”
Perry depends on past glory
With only one victory over the Pensioners away from home in six tries, Zesco United will present a tough opponent for Napsa Stars.
Kapembwa Musonda, the club’s leading goal scorer in the past two seasons, will lead Mutapa’s potent assault in this regard.
