Kabwe Warriors lost 2-0 to Mutondo Stars in a week 15 fixture played at Godfrey Ucar Chitalu stadium, marking their fourth straight loss this season.

Warriors started the 2023–24 season with a nine-game winning streak. However, after their matchup with Kansanshi Dynamos in week 13, they have now lost four games.

The visitors-controlled play and took the lead in the 23rd minute. Dalitso Lungu added another goal to make it two in the 87th.

Warriors head coach Numba Mumamba, however, responded to the outcome by saying he thought the team lost because they did not take advantage of the opportunities they created.

“A very painful defeat in front of our home fans. I think we failed to account ourselves in the game we had chances, but unfortunately, we failed to convert any of the chances, I think we didn’t play the way we have been playing that is why we lost. I think Mutondo stars were a better side, and they got the three points.”

Meanwhile, the former Zanaco FC head coach is still hopeful the team can finish in the top five before the second round of the season.

Warriors’ next task is against Nkana.

“I don’t think we underrated the opponents; I think it wasn’t just our day we did not play the way we expected the team to play that is why we lost. I think the league is still very on, for now our objective is that we finish in the top five bracket by halfway mark then after the first round then we give ourselves another objective so that we see how we can go about it.”

After 15 games played, Warriors have now climbed up to eighth place with 22 points, while Mutondo stars are in ninth place with just 21 points.
