Mufulira Wanderers’ quest for their first Super League title in 30 years received a major boost after a hard-fought 1–0 victory over NAPSA Stars on Thursday.

The nine-time Zambian champions secured maximum points to move into fourth place with 31 points from 19 games, reigniting hopes of ending a three-decade league drought.

Paul Tembo’s 66th-minute goal was enough to secure the victory for the Copperbelt-based club, who will also be returning to the ABSA Cup this season.

The crucial win leaves Wanderers just five points behind current leaders Red Arrows, firmly placing them in the title conversation, while NAPSA Stars is 14th in the standings with 20 points, just two points above the relegation zone.

Lameck Banda, the head coach of Mufulira Wanderers, was pleased with how his team performed, stating: “ The game was okay, the boys did put up some great performances, I like the way we did defensively we did extremely well, kudos to everyone for that defensive organization.”

Mufulira Wanderers will host Nchanga Rangers this Sunday at Shinde Stadium. Rangers are third in the standings, level on 31 points with Wanderers ahead of Sunday’s clash.
