Former Nkana and Chipolopolo striker Kenneth ‘Bubble’ Malitoli has tipped strikers in the country to work on improving their conversion rates.
The MTN Super League top scorers’ chart is currently led by Kenyan striker Moses Shumah of Power Dynamos with 21 goals, while Chipolopolo forward Albert Kangwanda is a distant second with 11 goals.
Malitoli said in an interview that the country has quality strikers, but their conversion rate remains a major concern.
“I would say we have the strikers; the only thing that bothers me is the conversion rate. Chances are always there, but the misses are plenty; players need to push themselves,” he said.
He said players need to set targets for themselves and constantly evaluate their performances.
“Week in, week out, you have to start thinking, what have I done in this game? What is it that I have contributed as a striker? If the answer is no, have I created any chance?” he said.
Malitoli urged strikers to develop predatory instincts inside the box.
“You must be hanging just around the penalty yard, and if you have good players around you, the chances are that they will give you balls which you will score,” he said.
He added that players must continuously challenge themselves in order to improve.
