Lumwana Radiants are gaining ground in the battle to avoid relegation after defeating Green Eagles over on Sunday.
Bilton Musonda, the team’s head coach, was pleased with his players’ performance, particularly goalkeeper William Mtonga, who has kept five clean sheets and conceded only one goal in six games.
Against Green Eagles, the Lumwana Radiants’ shot-stopper led his team to three points after saving an 84th penalty.
“He’s tremendously working extra hard; he has made our team win all the games because he is not conceding any goal. So far so good for him, which is good for him,” said the head coach.
The Northwestern-based side defeated Eagles 1-0 at the Independence Stadium, making it four wins in their last six matches and slowly getting out of the relegation zone as they sit 15th in the standings with 20 points from 19 matches.

Speaking to the media after the game, Musonda is keeping his fingers crossed on the team’s chances of surviving relegation.
“We are still in the relegation zone, but looking at our performance, if we can continue like this all the way, we are going to survive,” Musonda told reporters.
“We are not losing and that’s what is important. It’s up to the boys to work extra hard and keep the momentum,” he added.
Lumwana Radiants will face Nchanga Rangers in their next Super League fixture this Saturday. The win in that match could see them move out of the relation zone.
