Power Dynamos coach Oswald Mutapa is wary of the threat posed by winless Nkana ahead of the two sides’ meeting in this season’s first instalment of the Kitwe Derby.

On Saturday, the spotlight will be at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium when two of Kitwe’s most successful clubs lock horns in full view of President Hakainde Hichilema.

The timing of the game makes for good reading in that it comes at a period when both teams have contrasting forms.

Power are on a run of three straight wins, four points from the summit of the table, while Nkana are second from bottom and are yet to win a match since they had three points docked for their Green Buffaloes win.

Mutapa, who has never won the derby, knows a thing or two about facing Nkana; they tend to step up on derby day.

Men lie. Women lie. But numbers? They never do 😎⚽

He told journalists on Friday that his side is ready for the challenge that Nkana poses.

“Coming from three consecutive wins, we would love to build on it. We are champions and have to play like champions,” he said.

Mutapa added, “We want to go into that game as favourites but it is dangerous playing a team that has not done so well we know what is at stake.”

For Nkana coach Mwenya Chipepo, he was modest over his team’s current form but remained hopeful that they could turn the corner in this game.

“We’re very disappointed; Nkana is not supposed to be where we are now. We expect to perform better. We are not going to surrender but we will make sure that we will move from where we are,” Chipepo said.
