Former Nkana defensive midfielder Duncan Otieno has described the Zambian Super League as one of the most competitive leagues in Africa.
Earlier this year, the Kenyan midfielder joined Kenya Police Football Club in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL). He previously played for Lusaka Dynamos and Gaborone United in the Botswana Premier League.
After leaving Nkana Football Club, he went on to join Kenyan PSL side AFC Leopards on a 2-year deal.
In an interview with BolaNews, Otieno said that the Zambian Super League is one of the fastest-growing leagues in Africa.
“I have always been a fan of African football leagues… And Zambia is one of the most competitive leagues in Africa,” Otieno stated. “Honestly, I still follow what happens on that side, and it is amazing. I feel the league is growing and even becoming more competitive and better.”
‘Zambian Leagues are exporting players to Europe’- Otieno
The 29-year-old midfielder says the Zambian leagues have continued to mold young players, as evidenced by the signings made by prodigies Joseph Sabobo Banda (FC Zurich) and Kingston Mutandwa (Cagliari).
“New talents are rising every day, and it’s also good to see Zambia export more talent to Europe and other parts of the world,” he stated.
Having returned from a 16-month stint in Botswana with Gaborone United, Otieno says he is settling in well at Kenya Police Football Club.
“I am settling in well with my current club, and I feel at home once again. I want to help the club achieve its goals and improve to be a better player,” Otieno stated.
Otieno, an admirer of the Zambian Super League, has not ruled out the possibility of returning to the country.
“I miss Zambia generally; it’s a nice place, and I do miss the friends I made too. If given another opportunity to come work in Zambia, I don’t think I can say no,” he concluded.
