Zambian midfielder Kelvin Mubanga Kampamba says he’s still adjusting to playing on artificial pitches at his new club, Al-Nasr Benghazi, and that the Libyan league is quite difficult.
Kampamba joined the Libyan top-flight side last month from Zesco United after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The 29-year-old left the Ndola-based side as the club’s top scorer with seven goals in the first half of the Zambian Super League.
Kampamba told Bolanews in an exclusive interview that Libya’s league is more competitive than Zambia’s.
“I thought the league was weak, but looking at the way I have played, it’s far better than the Zambian Super League,” he said. “The game here is more tactical and fast. It has more talented and hardworking players.”
“They have artificial grounds here. I was used to playing in the grass back home; I need to get used; that’s the difficult part,” added the Chipolopolo attacker.
Kampamba is targeting winning the Libyan League in his debut season.
“My target is to win the league with the team so that we may participate in continental football next season,” he stated. “But for now, I will continue to do well. The club has a lot of confidence in me and I promise to deliver. Playing for the first time away from home is not easy.”
Kampamba, who is nursing an injury, has featured in four matches and assisted once, including being named man of the match once.
Al Nasr leads Group A of the league standings with 31 points from 13 matches. The club has won two Libyan Premier League championships and is vying for its third.
They have made four appearances in the CAF Champions League and are yet to win a title.
