Brian Kunsunama, the head coach of Atletico Lusaka Football Club, has noted that one of the biggest problems most Zambian teams are currently dealing with is goal scoring.
Titus Chansa (Power Dynamos) and Godfrey Binga (Napsa Stars) are the league’s top scorers with 10 goals apiece after 29 games played.
Kunsunama watched his side draw goalless against Kabwe Warriors in a Week 29 MTN Super League match at Nkoloma Stadium.
The Bad Boys are currently 13th with 33 points, with 8 wins, 9 draws, and 11 defeats, scoring only 20 goals while allowing 36 goals in the process.
In a post-match interview, Kunsunama described the lack of goals as a ‘Zambian disease,’ promising to rectify the final third just like they have managed to work on the defence that has kept two clean sheets.
“I think it’s a Zambian disease. Scoring is a Zambian disease. We’re trying to find the right Panadol to give to the boys,” Kunsanama said. “It seems the present Panadol is not working. So, we will try to mix up things and see what we can get out of it.”
Kunsunama was, however, impressed with the team’s defence that has kept consecutive clean sheets following some changes made in the tactical approaches in line with the team’s playing philosophy.
He adds that remaining matches will be crucial in their pursuit to remain in the MTN Super League.
“We changed something in our system, but principles stayed the same. And I think that has helped us and has given us more balance in defence. So, because of that, we thought that was our biggest weakness. And since we’ve worked on that now, the next thing is to try to push the team forward so we can get goals,” Kunsanama stated.
He added, “To us right now, it’s 18 points that we need to fight for. So, all six games are important. Every game that comes will be important to us. So, for now, we just prepare. We just think of the next game. We can’t start thinking of the other five games.”
