Indeni Football Club striker Jonathan Munalula has revealed that he wants to score more than 10 goals after returning to the Zambian Super League.
Munalula, a former Under-17 striker, helped the Ndola side win promotion to the elite league and play in the 2024 ABSA Cup.
He scored five goals last season and is optimistic about a better performance in the Super League as he returns with another Ndola side after being on the books of Forest Rangers before he switched sides.
Munalulu has told BolaNews that he is targeting a national team call-up in the new season, though he notes that it will take a lot of hard work.
“I’m really happy to be back in the Super League, and it makes me happy to be where I’m mostly experienced,” Munalulu said. “Personally, my goal is to get a national team call-up and help my team be successful this season.”
Munalula aiming for Golden Boot with Indeni
The striker has also taken a swipe at Super League strikers, adding that he is here to challenge for the top scorers’ boot.
“My aim is to score 10 goals or more because the Super League top scorers always seem to be scoring the same number of goals in each season, which doesn’t surpass 15 goals,” he added.
The 23-year-old also shared his experience playing in the national division-one league and the differences between the two leagues.
“I believe each league is difficult because every team has its objectives… Both leagues are tough, and the only difference is space marking, which is in the Super League, and tight marking in the National League, making it tougher,” he concluded.
Munalula will be hoping to make a return to the Super League when Indeni take on ZANACO Football Club at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Saturday.
In 2019, Munalula’s brace helped Zambia claim the Under-20 COSAFA title by beating South Africa 3-0 at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.
