Zambian Women’s Super League Green Eagles have settled for the National Sports Development Centre (NASDEC) as their new home in the upcoming 2024/25 season.
The Zambia National Service (ZNS)-sponsored team will be the second to use the NASDEC since the league’s inception, following The Elites Ladies Football Club, who will play at Woodlands Stadium this season.
Last season, the Green Eagles finished fourth in the women’s league, their best finish to date.
Albert Mphande’s lasses finished with 57 points, having won 16 games, drawn nine, and lost nine.
Mphande says he is pleased with the club’s performance last season, given that it was his first season as manager of a women’s team.
“Last season was the first time I coached a women’s team,” Mphande said. “Our target was to finish in the top four and we managed do so but it was not easy.”
The former Nkwazi Football Club coach has hinted that the club intends to challenge Green Buffalo’s dominance in the local scene.
The Green Buffaloes won the 2023-24 Super League undefeated and are now in Lilongwe, Malawi for the COSAFA-CAF Women Champions League Qualifiers.
“I would like to congratulate the players for a job well done because adopting to these tactics, formations and the technical bench’s philosophy requires effort. We did it but we have to add an extra mile by working even harder to reach our targets for next season,” he stated.
The Majestic Eagles will kick off their Super League campaign with a military derby against the Green Buffaloes. They will have to wait a little longer to play the Buffaloes, who are away for the CAF Champions League qualifiers.
