In his first match in charge, Mwenya Chipepo guided Nkana FC to a convincing 3-1 victory over Mufulira Wanderers at Shinde Stadium in Mufulira, hours after being unveiled as the head coach of the 13-time Zambian champions.
After the match, in an interview with the media, Chipepo expressed joy over his team’s impressive performance against “Maite,” securing all three points away from home.
“It was nice. It’s been a long time since I saw Nkana playing like this. I’m happy that we have scored three goals and we have picked three points,” he said.
Nkana has struggled to break into the top half of the league this season, following a rough start that led to Ian Bakala’s departure as head coach.
Chipepo, the former Forest Rangers, coach emphasized the need for a turnaround to climb up from the relegation zone.
“We must start moving away from that bottom,” he said.
Despite the morale boost, Chipepo has shifted focus to their next match, against the defending champions, Red Arrows in a Week 10 fixture.
“Another tough game, playing defending champions—we just have to prepare well,” he noted.
The win at old rival, lifts Nkana from 16th in the relegation zone to 13th place on the log with ten points.
