Former Nkana FC player condemns departure of Ian Bakala

Getting rid of Bakala was wrong, says former Nkana defender.

Former Nkana left-back Alick Sichinga has said chopping and changing coaches at the legendary club is not the solution to improving the team’s performance levels.

Nkana has put Ian Bakala on ice, handing the coach and his assistants Denis Makinka and Josphat Nkoma on administrative leave following the poor run of results.

Bakala was seen as a breath of fresh air last season when he was appointed to replace Beston Chambeshi two games into the campaign following a poor start to the season.

The 43-year-old managed to save the team from relegation last season but a poor start this season has left the club with no option but to send the former Chipolopolo midfielder gardening.

However, Sichinga said in an interview from his base in Kitwe that the club should exercise patience.

“I think sometimes patience is always important,” Sichinga said.“We have become a club of one new coach every season and I don’t think that is good for a club like Nkana.”

Few Nkana fans will agree with Sichinga, as most will contend that his record at the club doesn’t warrant Bakala to continue being in the driving seat.

Bakala has been on the wheel for 38 games, winning 12, losing 13, and drawing as many. His side has conceded 33, five more than they have conceded.
