New month, same old Forest Rangers and Indeni. It is becoming cliché to write about these teams and their losses. In today’s recap of match day 13 in the Supers league, this is all the space I will allocate them.
Let’s focus on serious teams, shall we?
WARRIORS END ZESCO’S 18–MATCH HOME UNBEATEN RUN
Levy Mwanawasa Stadium was a fortress for Zesco United until they met Kabwe Warriors. Before Saturday’s game, the former champions had not lost a home match in the league for the last 18 games.
In 18 games since November 8, 2023, Zesco United has managed 11 wins and seven stalemates. Warriors were, however, not having any of that, as a goal apiece in either half was enough to sour Zesco’s home run.
By the way, the last team to record a league win against Zesco at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium before Warriors was Warriors. How ironic!
WE ARE IN FOR AN EPIC KITWE DERBY
There has never been a better time to have the Kitwe Derby played than now! To use a football cliché, both clubs are ‘firing in all cylinders!’
On match day 13, Nkana and Power Dynamos warmed up to the derby with respective wins. The Red Army managed a 3–0 victory over the Green Buffaloes while Aba Yellow registered a 3–1 win over Nkwazi.
Power will go in the derby with the aim of consolidating their stay at the summit, while for Nkana, it will be about edging close to the title-chasing pack. This game will have extra motivation for Mwenye Chipepo.
He has already faced Power since he left them, but it never gets any better than facing them with their biggest rivals.
Evenly matched with four wins and one defeat from their respective five games, the stage is set for an epic derby.
ELSEWHERE!
Mutondo Stars have continued with their free fall; George Chilufya needs to quickly turn the tables. Things do not look good for the Kitwe side who have moved from being ‘Evergreen’ to ‘Ever Red’.
George Lwandamina has continued with his unbeaten run in charge for Rangers, time will tell how far he can push it.
