Midfield maestro Innocent Kashita has revealed to BolaNews how relegation-threatened Trident FC plans to get their first win of the season and turn their fortunes around.

Following promotion to the top flight, the Kalumbila-based club signed the creative playmaker from newly-relegated Chambishi on a two-year loan deal from his parent club, Police College FC.

Kashita racked up some impressive numbers last season, with six goals and 11 assists to his name. The 24-year-old, however, has yet to find the back of the net in his first days at Trident FC.

Speaking to BolaNews, the midfielder admitted, “On a personal level, the previous season was good. At Trident, I haven’t started well. But I have set a target of reaching 20 goal involvements by the end of the season, surpassing last season’s tally.”

The midfield orchestrator also named some Chipolopolo icons he tries to emulate and draw inspiration from. He said, “Isaac Chansa and Felix Katongo have inspired me a lot. I try to challenge myself to emulate and even do better than they did.”

Enock Mwepu and Nkwazi FC’s Steven Mutama are other stars Kashita looks up to.

Kashita reveals his favourite Super League clubs

When quizzed about a top Zambian Super League club he would love to represent, Kashita replied, “I am a competitive player. I would fit in and adjust to any team. However, I am a big fan of NAPSA Stars. Also, ZESCO and Forest Rangers.”

Meanwhile, Trident FC remains the only team in the Zambian Super League yet to scoop up a victory in the top flight. They have endured five defeats and eight stalemates this season as they sit at the bottom of the log.

Speaking about Trident FC’s form, Kashita admitted, “We have been constantly changing coaches. From coach Mwanza to Malisawa and now Albert Kachinga. Recently, there has been improvement, performance-wise. But if we are not collecting maximum points, then it won’t make sense.

“The onus is on us, the players, to have a mindset of collecting maximum points. We need to see our games. Everyone is determined and focused for that first win, which will give us confidence,” the playmaker added.

Kashita also revealed how disappointed he was after being snubbed for a national team call-up, despite being one of the best midfielders in the Zambian Super League last season.

“I was really disappointed that I wasn’t called up. Not even to the COSAFA squad,” he said.

“However, things happen for a reason. It’s my dream to represent the national team before I retire.”

Kashita was last called to the national team in 2020 for the CHAN tournament by then-Chipolopolo coach Milutin Sredojevic.
