Only three Zambian players have scored more than twenty goals in the Super League in the last sixteen Super League seasons; two players from Zesco United and a player from Red Arrows did it in the 2006–07 season.

Avram Grant, the current coach of the Chipolopolo Boys, has publicly voiced his worries over the lack of goal scorers in the Super League.

Despite only playing in sixteen of the thirty-four league games for the Green Eagles, Ivorian striker Freddy Michael finished as the league’s top scorer with 14 goals during the recently concluded 2023–24 Zambian Super League season.

Dube Phiri of Red Arrows won the League Golden Boot award in 2005 with 28 goals; Winston Kalenga won the award the following season with 28 goals; and Rainford Kalaba, the 2012 AfCON winner, scored 23 goals in the 2007 League season while playing for Zesco United.

To date, no player in Zambia has scored more than twenty goals in a league season than Kalaba, a former player for TP Mazembe.

Congolese strikers seem to find it easy in the ZSL

The last strikers in the Zambian Super League to score twenty league goals were three Congolese players: Patrick Kabamba, Chris Mugalu, and Idris Mbombo.

Twenty goals were scored by Kabamba during his Zanaco season of 2009. Mugalu (Lusaka Dynamos) scored twenty goals during the 2017 season, while Mbombo scored the same goal the following season. With 24 goals in 2016, Walter Bwalya, another Congolese striker, took home the Golden Boot.
