FC Leopards lost 2-1 to Green Buffaloes, their sixth defeat of the season, in a Week 16 ZPL fixture played at Edwin Imboela Stadium on Saturday.
Despite the defeat, newly appointed FC Leopards caretaker coach Sunday Sichimata remains confident his team will still survive relegation to lower division.
The Correct Boys have suffered back-to-back defeats, with the club letting go of coach Justin Chinama.
Sichimata took over from Chinama, who parted ways with the club following a poor string of results.
Speaking to journalists in an interview, Sichimata expressed confidence in the team’s chances of surviving relegation.
“We still have games; we will survive. We will work hard with discipline, determination, and sacrifice. The team will survive; we still have more games,” he said.
FC Leopards is in the relegation zone with 12 points from 16 league matches.
“Problems will not continue; we just have to work on the ones I have found. We need to make sure that the boys have power; we are lacking a bit of power that comes from the gym. We need to do that; we also need to replace the players who have left,” added the coach.
The caretaker coach believes the team is on the right track.
“We played well; the boys did what they were supposed to do except for some mistakes that were being made, and the other team capitalized on those mistakes,” noted the coach.
