Changing coaches not a solution for Zanaco; dissolve board—M’ngawa

The former Zanaco FC defender believes the club's problems are not with the coaches, but with the board, which should be dissolved.

Former Zanaco defender Desmond M’ngawa has said the club needs to ring some changes to its board following a slump in standards at Sunset Stadium.

The seven-time champions have enjoyed uninterrupted participation in the Super League since their promotion in 1991 but face relegation this season.

Ahead of the start of the second round, they sit in the relegation zone with 17 points, having only recorded two victories in their last 18 matches.

The club has made its second managerial change in the current season, with former trainer Mumamba Numba announced today as the head coach.

In an interview recently, M’ngawa said the club sponsors should consider making changes to the current board.

“The only solution is to first dissolve this non-performing board and subsequently appoint a new one to be headed by someone who the managing director can call to her office when the team is underperforming so that she can read him/her the riot act because the bank spends a lot of money on the team,” M’ngawa said.

M’ngawa said he is troubled that Zanaco no longer attracts good players.

“The Club has failed to lure good players because of the Board running the club, it is either they have little or no ideas on how to attract good talent. The biggest problem is the Board,” he said.

He remained optimistic that Zanaco would survive the chop.

“They can survive relegation if they make changes to the club board by bringing in people who now the culture and History of the club,” he said. “These board members don’t even know that it is only Zanaco and Power Dynamos that have never been demoted after the inception of the Super League.”
