Chambeshi explains goal-drought by his strikers this season

The former Chipolopolo coach noted that while the additional goals from midfield are encouraging, there is still a need for strikers to rise to the occasion and complement the team’s attacking efforts.

Konkola Blades, head coach Bestone Chambeshi has challenged his strikers to rediscover their scoring touch as the Chililabombwe-based side pushes for a stronger finish in the MTN Super League.

Blades is ninth on the table with 41 points from 30 matches, having scored 27 goals and conceded 24 times.

However, concerns have emerged over the limited goal contribution from the club’s forwards in recent weeks.

Instead, it has been midfielders Boyd Musonda and Stephen Mutama who have stepped up to carry the scoring burden. Musonda has scored in two consecutive matches.

In an interview, Chambeshi said the midfield contributions is due to the team’s tactical approach and training methods, which emphasize attacking support from deeper areas.

“I think with our training and the way we are doing things on the pitch, we are encouraging the midfielders to score,” Chambeshi said. “So far, we have seen Stephen Mutama scoring; we have seen Boyd Musonda scoring.”

The former Chipolopolo coach noted that while the additional goals from midfield are encouraging, there is still a need for strikers to rise to the occasion and complement the team’s attacking efforts.

He stressed that the team’s philosophy is built on collective responsibility.

“I think it’s a team effort. We don’t have to depend on who is this or who is that. Football is a collective thing, and I’m happy the boys have come on board and started scoring,” he added.

With five matches to play, Chambeshi will be hoping his strikers can find form and add to the team’s tally as Konkola Blades aim to climb higher on the table as they look safe from relegation.
