Striker Augustine Mulenga is training with Super League side Napsa Stars following his release from South African club AmaZulu.

The 35-year-old, who has been without a club since leaving AmaZulu at the end of last season, was part of Napsa’s pre-season tour to the Copperbelt and played in the team’s friendly match against reigning league champions Power Dynamos.

Although no formal agreement has been reached, sources within the club told BolaNews that Mulenga is currently keeping fit with the team while coaches continue to assess his fitness and form.

“There is nothing concrete at the moment,” said a club official. “He [Mulenga] is training with us to maintain fitness, but of course, the possibility of signing him is not entirely off the table.”

Mulenga, a once-upon-a-time Chipolopolo regular, began his professional career at Nkwazi in 2014 before a short stint at Nkana. He rose to prominence at Zanaco, where his performances earned him the Zambian Footballer of the Year award in 2017.

His standout displays saw him secure a move to South African giants Orlando Pirates in 2018, where he spent two seasons before transferring to AmaZulu.

Mulenga’s first spell at Napsa Stars came in 2022, but it was brief, as he returned to South Africa the following year to sign for Chippa United. He later rejoined AmaZulu, but struggled to make an impact, leading to his release.

A return to Napsa would mark a full circle for the striker whose career has taken a nose dive recently.
