Dani Alves’ contract with Mexican club Pumas MX has been terminated following his arrest in Barcelona.

The footballer who holds the record for the most trophies(43) in football history is being held in police custody on suspicion of sexual assault.

In December, the 39-year-old former Barcelona full-back allegedly assaulted a woman by inappropriately touching her in a Barcelona nightclub.

It appears the ship has not sailed smoothly for the Brazilian, who has graciously brought joy to many on the pitch.

The former Barcelona defender faces a maximum sentence of four years in prison and has been denied bail.

Alves denied any wrongdoing stating, “I was there; I was with other people, having a good time.

“Everyone knows me and knows that I love to dance,” he added. “But without invading other people’s space and always respecting those around me.”

Alves spent most of his career in Spain where he made 408 appearances for Barcelona and 237 for Sevilla, scoring 22 and 15 goals respectively.

Will he return to the pitch again, or is it all over for the Brazilian superstar?
