Ghanaian player dies after collapsing on the pitch

Former Ghana National Team striker Raphael Dwamena has died after collapsing in a game between K Egnatia and KF Partizani in Albania.

The 28-year-old collapsed on the pitch in the 23rd minute of the game. He was later rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead.

Dwamena’s career suffered various setbacks after he was first detected to have a heart problem in 2017.

Ghana national team physician, Dr. Prince Pambo, who is also a seasoned CAF medical officer, revealed to Joy Sports before the tragic incident that Dwamena was advised on several occasions to retire from playing football.

He also collapsed twice on the pitch during his time in Austria.

Dwamena made nine appearances for the Black Stars of Ghana and scored two goals.

Among other clubs, he played for Red Bull Salzburg, Liefering, Austria Lustenau, Levante, Zaragoza, and Albania’s Egnatia Rrogozhin, where he met his fate.
