ZESCO Ndola Girls FC striker Charity Mubanga has returned to the Copper Queens squad for the 2024 Olympics qualifier against Morocco, slated for Friday, April 5, 2024, at the Levy Mwanawansa stadium before the second leg away in the North African country on April 9.

Mubanga missed out on the back-to-back matches against Ghana last month but has been recalled for next month’s encounters.

The striker joined the Ndola side in 2022 from Nkana Queens and has been in impeccable form for two seasons now.

Last season, Mubanga finished as the club’s top scorer with 16 goals and has so far surpassed last season’s tally, as she currently has 23 league goals.

Mubanga said her target is to win the Golden Boot in the league.

“As an individual, I want to get the league’s and the club’s top scorer [award]. Last season, I got the club’s top scorer, so this season my objective is to continue scoring and get the league’s top scorer,” Mubanga told the club’s media.

Mubanga has attributed her goal-scoring prowess to teamwork and hard work at the club.

“There is no secret; it’s just hard work and teamwork. With the help of my teammates and the hard work we put in, that is the secret to scoring these goals,” she said.

Mubanga has fixated her eyes on winning the Women’s Super League. She also wants to help her club represent the country in the COSAFA/CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers.

“We only have two main objectives for this season. To win the league and play in the CAF Champions League,” she stated.

Mubanga eyeing European move

Mubanga, who dreams of playing outside the country, has noted that women’s football has significantly improved in Zambia.

She revealed that she draws her inspiration from Chelsea and England international Lauren James and dreams of playing for one of the major clubs in Europe.

“Nowadays, football is not just about passion; it has also become a source of income. So it’s very beneficial to us and our families. I would encourage [fans] to watch women’s football, as it is just as entertaining as men’s football,” Mubanga said.

“One of my biggest dreams is to play outside the country for big clubs like Real Madrid, Chelsea, and Manchester United.

“Lauren James inspires me a lot. Her style of play, her composure, her confidence, and how she dribbles and scores. She inspires me to work harder and one day maybe become like her.”
