Elite Ladies FC has confirmed receiving K320,000 ($11.790) through the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) for two players, Comfort Selemani and Ximora Mapepa, who were part of the Copper Queens at the World Cup.
“The Elite Ladies Football Club wishes to confirm that, yesterday, it received K320,000 from the Football Association of Zambia,” the club announced on Friday.
“This makes us one of the first ever clubs in Zambia, at any level, to receive benefit funds from FIFA.”
The Lusaka-based club had two of their players, Comfort Selemani and Xiomara Mapepa, in the Copper Queens squad.
The FIFA World Cup Club Benefits Programme was created to recognize football clubs’ contributions to the success of the FIFA World Cup, both men’s and women’s.
A share of the benefits from hosting the tournament is distributed through the member associations to clubs.
FIFA has distributed USD 152 million to entities across the world that contributed to the successful staging of the 2023 Women’s World Cup, with clubs from all participating confederations receiving their share.
Clubs globally shared USD 11 million, while each player was paid USD 30,000 through their respective associations.
